Planning Your Wedding Flower Arrangements

Good wedding flower arrangements don't just 'happen', they're planned. At Heather's Grower Direct they are experts at designing or choosing flower arrangements.

For a theme that involves the season, reflect that in your choice of wedding flower arrangements. Late fall weddings are becoming popular, because Spring and Summer are so heavily booked these days and Winter is inconvenient in many areas.

Use flowers that fit with the season and the vase. Carnations, for example, come in a variety of colors that suggest autumn and fit right in with the season.

The season isn't the only reason to be careful about color, of course. You'll want everything about your wedding to match - even if you've selected an eclectic theme. Pastel cream-colored bridesmaid dresses, for example, won't be complimented by bright red Gerber Daisies. On the other hand, either pure white or red roses go perfectly with that stunning white bridal gown.

Flower baskets on the reception tables are another opportunity to exercise your creativity.

A spring wedding is the perfect time to fill wicker baskets with those early bloomers. Several species of Iris can be perfect here. Snapdragons make for excellent choices, since they fill out the container well. Sunflowers dress up any table.

You might be planning a wedding oriented around a Victorian theme. That is becoming ever more popular these days as the pendulum swings back to some ever-fresh old-fashioned ideas. Even something as simple as an antique watering can could provide the perfect vase to hold just the right wedding flowers.

Nothing says 'traditional' like a Lily. Mums are another truly good choice for a Victorian wedding. Roses are as familiar a sight at an old-fashioned wedding as grandmothers. The classic look of Tulips can be exploited for the centerpiece or to line the bridal path of an outdoor ceremony.

The trellis is another item that should not be overlooked. They provide a stellar decorative item that helps frame the bride and groom, whether for the ceremony or for photos afterward. Decorating one with wedding flowers to liven it up is simplicity itself.

Vining flowers are a frequent choice. Many outstanding flower species grow just that way. Several species of Orchids are available that would fit right in. Petunias, as another example, are lovely. Cathedral Bells look and sound exactly right for the trellis. Southern Stars are superb, with their thin, pale blue petals. For a brighter look, consider the light orange Black-Eyed Susie.

Whatever season, whatever theme you have in mind for the wedding, there's a flower that will provide the basis for the perfect arrangement. Let your good taste be your guide.   Click here to go back to our home page.
