These double flowers have five ragged, saw-toothed or scalloped petals that rise from a tubular calyx. Standard carnations are 2-3 inches across and solitary on a stem, which ranges from 1-3 feet long. Mini (or spray) carnations have 3-7 flowers per stem and the flowers are 1.25 to 1.5 inches across. The flowers have a sweet fragrance and come in many varieties, including solid, bi-colored and flecked. The average vase life, with proper care, is 14-20 days.
